BITSMUN '13

BITSMUN '13 Hyderabad was held between October 11th and 13th at BITS Pilani Hyderabad Campus. The conference saw the simulation of five councils with around 200 delegates in presence.

The UNGA (DISEC) took up the issue of illicit Trade in Small Arms and Light Weapons with special focus on conventional ammunition. The UNHRC debated on the need for Human Rights in cyber space. Both were predominantly first timer councils, which showed a lot of potential and interesting debate.

The futuristic ERC, which discussed the South China Sea issue came very close to a third world War, but managed to come to peaceful negotiations. The Security Council's agendas were Peace Consolidation in West Africa and The Possibility of an Arctic Treaty.

The historic JCC was an unconventional council set in the year 1967 during the US-Vietnam war. This council had active participation in the form of debate, military strategies, assassinations and eventually saw USA win the war.

The International Press was active and well represented through the three days of the conference. The IP maintained a live Twitter feed and published newsletters. Despite a few logistical problems and last minute back outs owing to the tension in Andhra-Telangana region, BITSMUN '13 went to plan and set up the stage for BITSMUN '14.
