Secretary General's Address

Hello Everyone.

Welcome back to the 3rd edition of BITSMUN Hyderabad Society's Annual Conference, BITSMUN '14. Before we move ahead about any doubts and questions regarding BITSMUN '14, we would like to take a moment to recap BITSMUN '13, that was simulated last October.

A good Model UN Society is not one that boasts of its achievements but recognizes it's failures and shortcomings, accepts them and strives to rectify them the next time around. BITSMUN '13 had its strengths and weaknesses. We had the maximum turnout that we have had for any of our conferences till date, the number being roughly 200. We were able to replace most of our last minute back-outs and had complete strength in almost all 5 councils that we simulated. In addition to that, we simulated two unconventional councils - the ERC and the JCC to a very good degree of success.

On the flip side, the quality of debate within most committees was not up to par and not up to what delegates expect from a BITSMUN conference; not even up to our own expectations. This was because several EB members and experienced delegates from Chennai and Bangalore weren't able to make it at the very last minute in light of the tension in the Andhra region and their reluctance to travel, among other reasons pertaining to the overall organization of the conference.

In BITSMUN '14, I, Ramit Mehta, the Secretary General for the conference, take it upon myself that there shall be no such reason or excuse that will come in the way of this being an absolutely impeccable conference, both in terms of organization and debate. You can take my word that you will get exactly what you expect from a BITSMUN conference - top notch IKEA-esque quality. In fact, if a situation similar to the one we encountered last year arises, we will arrange for buses to bring the delegates from Bangalore, Chennai or whichever city delegates are travelling from and facing a problem in reaching here. That is our resolve and we will stick to it. BITSMUN '14 will be a testament to this resolve and a toast to the quality that is overflowing in our MUN community.

I welcome you to BITSMUN '14.

Ramit Mehta

Secretary General
